Alumni Spotlight: Martin Piller

PGA tour player and Texas A&M alumni, Martin Piller, is the featured TJGT alumni for the week of February 29th – March 5th, 2016. Piller was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Duncanville, Texas. He has enjoyed hard-earned success as a professional and amateur golfer since graduating the TJGT junior golf ranks.

Piller competed in several TJGT tournaments as a rising junior and his performance was impressive enough to earn him a spot on the famed men’s golf team at Texas A&M university.

Piller competed for Texas A&M from 2005 to 2008 and garnered All-Conference honors as well as being selected for the All-Big 12 in 2007. Piller turned professional in 2008 and began a long journey towards establishing his credentials on the PGA tour.

Piller’s professional career was significantly more prosperous than his days as a fighting Texas A&M Aggie. He won his first start as a professional in 2008 at the Texas State Open. Piller then moved on to compete on the Web.com tour in 2009. He picked up his first title at the 2010 Stadion Athens Classic at UGA. In 2009, Piller finished in eighth place on the money list and garnered a coveted PGA tour card for the 2011 season.

To date Piller has five career Web.com tour titles. He has competed in 33 PGA Tour events with three career top 25 finishes. Piller married LPGA tour professional Gerina Mendoza in 2011. Together the pair compete in professional tournaments throughout the nation and abroad. The Pillers are one of very few couples to both establish a career on the professional golf circuit.
