Post Report: 2016 Lonestar Boys Invitational

Dallas, Texas — October 22nd & 23rd, 2016 – The 2016 Lonestar Boys Invitational was wrapped up play this weekend at the historic Golf Club of Dallas, formerly known as Oak Cliff Country Club. The Golf Club of Dallas once hosted the PGA Dallas Open from 1958 through 1967, now known as the PGA Byron Nelson Golf Classic. Some of the event’s past winners include, famous golfers Sam Snead and Charles Coody.

As players stepped onto this historic course, there was much at stake for the competition. The champion earned an invitation into the upcoming Red River Challenge in Oklahoma, the top three finishers received exemptions into the Dixie Amateur and the top 20 finishers received automatic invitations to the Tour Championship and the Spring and Fall Traditions Invitational in College Station, Texas. This venue provided the perfect opportunity for our boys to showcase their skills in front of collegiate coaches. The event was played in a 36 hole format from 6,719 yards and the division combined the ages of 11-18 years old.

Coaches representing the institutions of Abilene Christian University (ACU), South Alabama University (SAU) and New Mexico University (NMU) were all present and scouting for potential talent. Our competitors hailed from all over the United States and Internationally, representing the following states and countries: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. The weather cooperated flawlessly remaining in the high 70s with cool breezes.
