What Are the Age Divisions for the TJGT?

Boys & Girls: 12-15, 16-18.

Is There a Proof or Birthdate/Birth Certificate Required to Play?

No, just make sure you input your age correctly on membership registration.

What if I Am 15 and Turn 16 During a Tournament?

The player may play in the age division originally registered but must move into the older age division upon tournament completion. All points earned in the previous division will not be transferred into the new division.

Can I Play up Into a Division?

Yes, with TJGT staff approval. Email the TJGT staff.

If I Play up Into a Division, How Do the Points Work?

Any points earned while playing up will not be awarded in the division the player normally plays in. Points will be awarded only in the older division for that tournament only.

How Do the Invitational Age Groups Work?

The TJGT invitationals are open tournaments for ages 12-18.  There are no divisions within invitationals for Golfweek ranking purposes. See invitational criteria.

Are there separate tournament venues for the 12-15 division?

Yes, there will be several separate dedicated tournaments at the Holiday Classics, Tour Championship and Tyler Invitational just for the 12-15 age division with multiple AJGA Jr. All-Star exemptions. This maximizes the strength of field and AJGA Jr. All Star Exemptions.

In a Normal TJGT Tournament, does the 12-15 age division play With the Older Divisions?

Yes, but they play at different yardages for their skill level, usually between 6000-6400 yds.

Do the Girls Play Separate Yardages in the Jr. All-Star Division?

No, because the AJGA awards performance based entry to girls age 12-18. This is why they play the same yardages. TJGT will present awards in each division in any non-invitational tournament as well as points for All-Tour Teams & Player of the Year awards.  Therefore, the younger girls (12-15) playing the same yardages will always have the opportunity to win an AJGA exemption or Performance star if the have the lowest score overall.  For example, a younger girl shoots the lowest overall score to win her 12-15 division and her total score is the lowest of the 16-18 division, she would receive the AJGA Open Exemption for Girls 12-18 and the champion award for Girls 12-15.  The lowest three scores within the Girls 16-18 division will receive awards as well but the champion might not earn the AJGA exemption because her score was not the overall lowest of all the girls.  This policy is generated as a result of the AJGA PBE award.

If I Am a Girl in the 12-15 Age Divison, Can I Still Earn Ajga Jr. All-Star Status?

Yes, the winner of the 12-15 age division can win a Jr. All-Star exemption as well as an open AJGA exemption if they were to win the overall tournament with the best score since all girls are playing the same yardages. This depends on the AJGA PBE award for the individual tournament.  All AJGA PBE awards are found on the individual tournament info page.

What Yardages Do the Girls Play?

Normal TJGT tournaments can expect to play apx. 5700-5900 yds depending on course/weather conditions.  Invitational yardages for all girls can expect to play at collegiate distances at 6000-6300 yds. Each course has their own color of tees.  Therefore, it is important to play practice rounds at the these yardages and not a specific color or tees.  Whatever tee color corresponds to these yardages, then play that tee marker. Practice round yardages are not exact and TJGT always reserves the right to adjust the course yardage due to weather conditions and pace of play considerations

If I Am a 12-15 Girl, My Scores Will Be Higher if I Have to Play the Same Yardages As the Older Girls apx. 5700 Yds.

Yes & no, depending on the course this could be true. However, the younger girls have the opportunity to win AJGA open exemptions & Jr. All-Star exemptions and prepare for TJGT invitationals as well as college coach exposure.

Why Does Tjgt Do This to the Girls?

To maximize the national exposure earlier for girls to excel on TJGT, AJGA and college coach exposure.

Are There Separate Awards for the Girls Age Divisions?

Yes, tjgt gives awards & points within their respective division for the top three places.

Does Tjgt Play All the Boys at the Same Yardages?

No, boys 16-18 play apx. 6800-7000 yds & boys 12-15 play apx. 6000-6400 yds at normal TJGT tournaments. Therefore, it is important to play practice rounds at these yardages and not a specific color or tees.  Whatever tee color corresponds to these yardages, then play that tee marker. Practice round yardages are not exact and TJGT always reserves the right to adjust the course yardage due to weather conditions and pace of play considerations. TJGT staff will normally shorten par 3’s for pace of play and make par 5’s true par five holes where it takes three shots to reach the green.

What Are the Yardages at Tjgt Invitationals for Boys?

The yardages are set as close to college distances as possible. This usually equates to apx. 7000-7200 yds, depending on weather/course conditions. Therefore, it is important to play practice rounds at the these yardages and not a specific color or tees.  Whatever tee color corresponds to these yardages, then play that tee marker. Practice round yardages are not exact and TJGT always reserves the right to adjust the course yardage due to weather conditions, weather forecast predictions, local course input/limitations and pace of play considerations

Are There Separate Awards for Each Division for Boys?

Yes, TJGT gives award & points for the respective division for the top three places.

What yardages can I expect on the TJGT?

Non-Golfweek Ranked/Normal Tournaments

Boys 12-15: 6100-6500 yds
Boys 16-18: 6500-7100 yds (usually around 6800 yards)
All Girls:  5600-5900 yds

Golfweek Ranked Tournaments ( One Age Division: Girls 12-18, Boys 12-18)

All Boys: 6800-7200 yds
All Girls: 5700-6300 yds

What Tee Markers Do These Yardages Represent?

All courses have different color coding for distances. Important to play the distances listed above and READ the INFO SECTION on the individual tournament page.

Why do all girls play the same yardages?

The AJGA awards exemptions to girls in one category: 12-18.

What is different at an invitational?

There is only one age division like an AJGA open event: 12-18 for both girls and boys.

What age divisions are played at an invitational?

Only 12-18. Per the invitational criteria, juniors & seniors are give priority to gain maximum collegiate coach exposure.  Also, awards are given to the top finishers in the tournament. Usually, top 5 places for boys, top 3 places for girls.  Usually, the AJGA Performance Based Entry (Performance Stars & Exemptions) go much deeper into the field.

Where Can I Find the Tee Markers Played & Course Information for Each Tournament?

It will be displayed on the tournament info page on the BlueGolf section of the TJGT website. Also, look in the notes section on each tournament info page. Sometimes, TJGT will list course setup changes.

If I Sign up in the 12/13 Division With the Mini-Tour Can I Also Play the Tjgt Jr. All Star Division (12-15) on the Tjgt?

Yes, the 12/13 age group will have a dual membership on both the Mini-Tour and the TJGT. Please contact TJGT and we will manually register you into the tour. Whatever tour you initially register for membership is what gifts you will receive.

How Do I Know If Can Play As A 12/13 On The TJGT?

The standards for 12-13 are primarily for pace of play.  If a player can carry his own bag without caddie, normally score below 94 or better from yardages between 6000-6400 yds then the player is generally ready to play the TJGT. TJGT staff reserves the right to inform any 12-13 player based on tournament performance whether they will be restricted to mini tour or Jr. All-Star division only.

How Do I Register for the Jr. All Star Division (12-15 Age Group) on the Tjgt if I Am a Member Only on the Elite Mini-Tour?

There is no stroke limit on the “Big Tour” Ages 12-15 or Age 16-18.

Are There Caddies on the TJGT?

No

Do You Allow Pull Carts on the Tjgt?

Yes, Click Here for TJGT Pull Cart Policy.

What Is the Pull Cart Policy?

PULL CARTS POLICY

TJGT’s policy is to mirror the AJGA policy on pull carts.

Pull Carts are allowed for all age divisions provided the host course permits.

All players/parents are advised to check with each individual course. The ultimate responsibility resides with the player.

Medical Condition: Any player, in any age division, may use a pull cart due to a valid medical condition provided the host venue allows the pull cart.

Elite Mini-Tour: Pull carts are allowed for all age divisions providing the host venue allows pull carts.  Caddies are allowed in all age divisions and may use pull carts.

TJGT Staff emphasizes safety when a player is being shuttled and pulling a pull cart. It is recommended to “fold up” the pull cart and place in the shuttle to prevent potential injury.

TJGT will not incur liability or responsibility for the damage to any pull cart or player as a result of pulling a pull cart when being shuttled.

Are There Distance Measuring Devices Allowed on TJGT or Elite Mini-Tour?

No, not until the AJGA adopts this policy.

Will the Players Exchange Scorecards?

Yes, before the round each player/caddie is asked to exchange scorecards before play begins.

Is There a Cut Policy?

Yes, boys must score better than 94 & girls 96.

Scoring Requirements/Cut Policy: The TJGT does have a cut policy at every tournament to guard against slow play.  Any player who is not keeping up with the pace of play requirements may be removed from the tournament by TJGT Staff/tournament director.

Cut Policy Scoring Requirements: All Boys: 94 or better, All Girls: 96 or better. Any player cut will only be cut for that tournament only. The player will have the opportunity to play in another tournament. TJGT realizes players have "bad scoring days" and allows a player to participate in future tournaments. TJGT Staff reserves the right to inform a player he/she is not ready for TJGT competition and restrict any future tournaments.

Can the Cut Policy Be Waived?

Yes, the TJGT tournament director has the authority to waive the cut policy if he/she believes pace of play standards are being met. It is rare TJGT invokes the cut policy. Usually only for slow play.

What Are the Pace of Play Standards?

A player has 45 seconds to hit a shot once arriving at his ball initially. This means having a good idea of yardage and shot selection before he/she arrives.

Pace of Play: The TJGT tournament committee will set the pace of play to expected rounds equal to or less than but not exceeding 4 hours and 30 minutes, 15 minute maximum per hole. If the tournament committee warns a group for being "out of position," the group has no more than three holes to resume proper position. If the "out of position" situation persists, a stroke penalty may be incurred for failure to reach proper position. Gross negligence of the pace of play may result in a disqualification. The TJGT tournament committee will, at its discretion, take into account any time-altering factors such as host course problems, weather conditions and any unforeseeable time obstacles. The tournament committee consists of the tournament director, Asst. Tournament Director, TJGT VP or President if present, any TJGT Board of Director, or host venue Head Professional if so designated by tournament director.

What if I Have a Question That Is Not Answered Here?

Food, Drink, Clothing, Umbrellas Etc?

Food, Drink, Clothing: Any parent or spectator may provide food, drink, clothing, umbrellas; hand warmers to players during the round of play provided it does not slow down pace of play or distract other competitors play.  TJGT recommends this to be done between holes from green to tee box or during the turn.  TJGT highly recommends as primarily a fall/winter tour each player bring extra clothes, rain suits, umbrellas to each tournament. Weather conditions can change quickly and the better you are prepared, the better chance for success while avoiding unnecessary costs for these items at the tournament venue or last minute trips to the shopping mall.

Mostly all the Invitational Events & Holiday Classics. Also, the College Bound Membership members will be given special seminars at many of these events.

What Is the Red River Challenge Held at Dornick Hills?

This is an elite Golfweek-ranked event where the TJGT and Mexican Junior Golf Association go head to head in a five-man internal team competition against the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour and Canadian players. (Similar to NCAA Team Play) The event is a Golfweek stroke play event, but 54 players from each side are broken up into five-man/woman teams to win the annual team trophy. It is similar to the AJGA Canon Cup competition. What Is the Difference Between a Golfweek Tournament and a Non-Golfweek-Ranked Tournament?

A Golfweek tournament is played at one yardage for girls and one yardage for boys. Golfweek requires minimum yardages, and to maximize the exposure for each competitor, TJGT staff plays the entire field at the same yardages. Boys play 6800-7100 yards, and girls play 5700-6300 yards depending on weather and wind conditions.
