The Trophy Club Mini Tour Championship

image
The Trophy Club Mini Tour Championship kicked off the spring season for the Elite Mini Tour at the 36-hole facility at Trophy Club Golf Course.  The mini tour played the Whitworth course both days.  The first day players were treated to gifts from the TJGT that included two sleeves of premium golf balls from Nike as well as a Nike golf shirt.  In all, the mini tour had 12 players tee it up for the thirty-six hole event.  There were six girls that played in the event, a very good number! The Boys & Girls 12-13 played 5,410 yards; the Boys & Girls 10-11 played 4,210; and the Boys & Girls 8-9 played 3,415 yards. The second day the players were met with rainy conditions in the morning during the warm-up session.  The rain held off for the most part except for a few little sprinkles scattered throughout the round.  The damp air and cloudy conditions, along with a stiff north wind, kept the temperatures down in the mid fifties.  Although the weather was cool, the play was not for 8-9 year old champion Jenson Rogenes.  Jenson shot rounds in the 70’s each day to claim the title.  Giving chase to Jenson was runner up Crosby…

TJGT kicks off Spring Break with a Triple-play!

image
It was a busy start to Spring Break with four events (three big tour and one mini-tour) all taking place at the same time. Our first stop takes us down to the Gulf of Mexco and the TJGT Galveston Island Classic. The TJGT Galveston Island Classic was played March 15-16 2010 at the Moody Gardens Golf Club in Galveston, Texas. The Boys 16-18 played 6,516 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,308 yards; and all Girls 12-18 5,859 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event. Close to 70 players started there Spring Break buy teeing it up down in Galveston.
The 6,500 yard Moody Gardens course again challenged some of the state’s best golfers. Many kids were ill prepared for the 30 mph winds, the narrow fairways and the sneaky difficult greens during the event.
However, we did have a few shining moments during the rain soaked…

The TJGT Elite Mini Tour’s Mini Tour Championship

The TJGT Elite Mini Tour’s Mini Tour Championship was held at the beautiful Slick Rock golf course at Horseshoe Bay over Valentine’s Day weekend.  35 players teed it up in near perfect conditions.  On Friday night and Saturday morning, the players were greeted with tournament gifts from Nike that included a golf shirt, two sleeves of balls, a pair of mittens, an electronic gift, a Nike golf cap and several other golf related items.  The first day the mittens came in ‘handy’ as the players were met with a one hour frost delay due to overnight freezing temperatures.  By the time the players began teeing off the temperatures had warmed up and the wind started blowing.  In the girls 8-9 division, Hanna Liu put together two very solid rounds to claim the Tour Championship trophy.  Hailey Jones played with one arm due to…

The TJGT Tour Championship at Horseshoe Bay

image
The TJGT Tour Championship was played at the Horseshoe Bay Resort on both the Ram Rock and Apple Rock Golf Courses February 13-14, 2010.
202 players from three countries and six states teed it up in this 36-hole Golfweek-ranked event.
Coaches from Wichita State, Mary Hardin Baylor, Southwestern saw the
Boys 16-18 play 6,721 yards; the Boys 12-15 play 6,373 yards; and all Girls play 5,796 yards in cold and windy weather.
Saturday was cold and windy as the temperatures ranged from 28 to 56 with winds gusting around 25 mph.  Both golf courses were in great shape considering the amount of rain the area has received. Round 1 was delayed an hour and half due to heavy frost and fog.  Sunday was perfect weather for golf.  Temperatures began in the Low 40’s and quickly warmed up in the mid 50’s.  Sunny skies and only a slight breeze made for a great closing round.
As always it’s tough to beat the TJGT “Year in Review” Tour Championship Awards Show. For starters players and parents were treated to…

TxAGC Endorses HighSchoolGolfScoreboard.com…Read letter to Coaches Here.

image
The TxAGC emphasized its support and endorsement of HighSchoolGolfScoreboard.com, the first and only “official” high school golf rankings in the country, in a letter sent from TxAGC President Jerry Crumpton to all of the coaches that make up the membership of the TxAGC. Coach Crumpton, Head Golf Coach at McKinney Boyd, opened his letter by stating, “In the past two years the TxAGC leadership and I have been working closely with Junior Golf Experts, College Coaches, Fellow High School Coaches, and Rankings Agencies for the PRIMARY GOAL of moving our sport to the level of football in Texas. Football in Texas is nationally recognized as the best in the nation because their sport has been given statewide & national exposure. This is why so many high school athletes have earned scholarships at all NCAA levels. College Coaches can find the football talent because of the exposure through various websites, rankings, media & newspaper coverage. This has not been the case for Texas High School Golf.”

In an interview with Tjgt.com, Coach Crumpton shared that one of the…

According to the players the weather was only “decent” on Saturday but it could more accurately be described as pretty darn good with temperatures ranging from the mid-50’s to mid-60’s depending on the sun. Sunday had highs in the 60’s with winds up to 20 mph.
So for the first time in three years it was not bone cold out at Blackhorse which made for a pretty good weekend of golf. Sam Fidone dominated the…

Espiga en fuego at TJGT Kingwood Lake Junior Championship

image
The TJGT Kingwood Lake Junior Championship was played at the Kingwood Country Club Lake Course on January 16th-17th 2009. Players from Texas, Louisiana, and Kansas teed it up on Saturday in typical chilly and wet Houston weather and on Sunday sunny, 63* temperatures after a cold start. Golf coaches from the University of Houston and Houston Baptist saw the Boys 16-18 play 6,100 yards; the Boys 12-15 play 5,600 yards; and all Girls 12-18 play 4,900 yards on a course that was shortened to a par-69 due to three unplayable fairways.
After a long stretch of extreme cold, the TJGT was able to resume play in Houston. This was in part due to Juan Espiga and his 2nd round 66 on the…
