TJGT HOUSTONIAN INVITATIONAL GETS UNDERWAY/COLLEGE COACH Q&A HUGE HIT!
The first round of the Houstonian Invitational, the first Invitational of the young 2008-09 TJGT season, was played today at the beautiful Houstonian Golf & CC, former home of the Nationwide Tour Championship.
Although we saw some great golf on the course, the highlight of the event thus far has to be the College Coach Q&A. This event was held on Sunday night and was attended by over 120 TJGT players and parents. The years of combined collegiate coaching experience of this esteemed panel ensured that every one in attendance walked away with a crystal clear picture of what college coaches look for and what is required to play golf at the collegiate level. Many people spend thousands of dollars to get the sort of information and direction that was shared the parents and players of the TJGT and it was all just a part of what makes the TJGT to place to play for junior golfers serious about playing college golf. The panel included JT Higgins and Trelle McCombs, the men’s and women’s coaches at Texas A&M, Chuck Winstead, men’s coach at LSU, PGA Tour winner and UNT women’s coach Jeff Mitchell, Dave Shuster, head coach at Houston Baptist, Austin Burk, assistant coach at Rice, Jim Bob Jackson, men’s coach at UNT, and Texas A&M assistant, Jonathan Dismuke.
On the course Brax McCarthy (Fort Worth, TX 2010) scorched the Houstonian firing a 3-under 69 followed by John Duke Hudson (Sonora, TX 2009) and Nicko Dodd (Sugar Land, TX 2009) who shot 71 and 72 respectively. On the girls side Ryanne Haddow (Sugar Land, TX 2010) leads the way after posting a 3-over 75. This puts her three shots clear of Lauren Quirch (Missouri City, TX 2010) who shot 78 and four clear of Tezira Abe (Angleton, TX 2012) who carded a 79.
Final round action in this Golfweek-ranked event will be on Tuesday. For full-filed scores check www.tjgt.com.
