THE TEMPERATURE WAS HOT, BUT DUBAY WAS HOTTER!
In the first round of the 36-hole nationally-ranked British Links Challenge being played at the Tribute GC in the Colony, in 100+ degree weather, Tyler DuBay (Frisco, TX 2009) scorched the course “DuBay style” firing a 7-under 65 that included 8 birdies, five on the front and three on the back side. DuBay certainly favored the odd-numbered holes on the front with birdies on 1,3,5,7, and 9, and even-numbers on the back with birdies on 10,12, and 14. When the smoke cleared he had a five-shot lead in the Boys 16-18 over Jeff Hageman (Grapevine, TX 2009) and Chris Leasor (Mansfield, TX 2010) who both shot respectable 2-under 70’s. Elliot Thompson (Frisco, TX 2009) and Corbin Light (Plano, TX 2008) round out the red-numbers crew posting 1-under par 71’s.
In the Girls 16-18 Jennifer Park (Carrollton, TX 2011) leads the way firing a 1-over 73, three shots clear of Laura Deleonardis (Flower Mound, TX) who carded a 76. April MCoy (Carrollton, TX 2011), Ashley Payne (Parker, TX 2008), and Jinny Kim (Coppell, TX 2010) all posted 77’s.
The Boys 12-15 saw two players of their own going low with Cole Kennedy (Texarkana, TX 2012) and Hunter Robinson (Coppell, TX 2011) both posting red numbers with rounds of 71. Thomas King (Southlake, TX 2011) and Cade Story (Dallas, TX 2012) sit one-shot back with a pair of solid 72’s.
The Girls 12-15 kept the outstanding golf going with the top of the leader board looking like this:
Johanna Scheeh (Grapevine, TX 2012) holds a one-shot lead after shooting 76 over Mackenzie Boydson (Keller, TX 2012) who shot 77. Grace Choi (Dallas, TX 2013) 78, and Kailey Glenn (Grapevine, TX 2011) 79 round out the top 4.
Final round action begins Tuesday morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start for all players. Full-field scores and final round pairings can be found on www.tjgt.com.
