LIGHTNING, A HOLE-IN-ONE, AND A DOUBLE-EAGLE…COWBOYS GOLF CLUB JUNIOR GOLF CLASSIC

image
We had all three during the final round of the Cowboys Golf Club Jr. Classic, which should come as no surprise to anyone not even the several college coaches in attendance. One Big VII women’s coach had this to say, “They may have only gotten in twelve holes but the quality of play I saw rivals that of any junior tour I’ve seen even on a national level.”
Big time congratulations to Samantha Long of Southlake who aced the par-3 #6 and to Roger Vezina who holed a 3-iron from 240 out to make a double-eagle on the par-5 #13.
After the first round of the Cowboys Golf Club Jr. Classic went off without a hitch on Monday, but come Tuesday Mother Nature had something to say.
After typical Texas in July weather for the opening round lightning forced the stoppage of play after most players had completed 11 or 12 holes. Play could never be resumed so scores reverted back to the first round.
Here’s how things ended up with all ties being determined by a scorecard playoff:

In the boys 16-18 Asa Manor (Trophy Club, TX 2011) took home the title followed by Zachary Sadau (Southlake, TX 2008), and Henry Todd (Trophy Club, TX 2011).

In the girls 16-18 Katelyn Sepmoree (Tyler, TX 2009), Emily Collins (Colleyville, TX 2010) and Melanie White (Colleyville, TX 2009) claimed the top spots.

In the boys 12-15 Cole Kennedy (Texarkana, TX 2012), Tyler Frye (Colleyville, TX 2011) and Nicholas Robert (McKinney, TX 2013) finished first to third.

In the girls 12-15 Kirsten Pike (Ovilla, TX 2013), Maggie Neece (Colleyville, TX 2013) , and Mary Cathryn Rau (Irving, TX 2011) took home the trophies

The next TJGT event is July 21-22nd at the Tribute in the Colony. If you’re not playing in the British Open you need to be playing here.
