Former TJGT Players Shine at Texas State Amateur!
Eight of the top ten players played with the best!
The Texas State Amateur was played June 5-8th at Houston CC in Houston, Texas.
Once again the TJGT shines brightly with 8 out of the top ten players all having teed it up on the TJGT as juniors.
Former TJGT player Kelly Kraft led the way with a first-place finish after firing a final round 68 to take the title by two shots. Kraft, from Denton, has just completed his freshman year at SMU. It was a good one as he was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year, and earned both All Conference and All Region honors. Now he can add Texas State Amateur Champion to his 2008 resume.
TJGT President Dave Jones had this to say, “When ‘Play with the Best’ is associated with our tour it shouldn’t be taken lightly but when eight out of the top ten players in the top amateur event in the great state of Texas are alumni of our tour, that speaks much louder than anything we could ever say.”
The remaining former TJGT players that made up 80% of the top 10 are:
John Peterson,Fort Worth, LSU, All-SEC Freshman team,
Paul Haley,Dallas, Georgia Tech,
Will Hanna,The Woodlands, Lousiville, former Conference USA Student-Athlete of the Year,
Travis Woolf, Fort Worth, TCU,
Blake Trimble, Houston, University of San Diego, former NAIA All-American,
Chris Ward McKinney,Texas Tech, All Big VII, All-Region Team,
Will Osborne, Wichita Falls, Arkansas.
LSU player John Peterson spoke fondly of the TJGT, “The TJGT is still one of the best, if not the best junior tour I had ever played and prepared me for the SEC Conference Golf better than anything I could have imagined. Along with the AJGA, the TJGT is the only tour to play in Texas and the entire southwest region. I know Kelly Kraft and I have great competitive memories of playing the outstanding TJGT Invitationals against him. All the Best to Mr. Jones and his awesome staff of high school golf coaches. They are THE BEST.”
