A LITTLE RAIN, SOME COLLEGE COACHES, LOTS OF GREAT GOLF
The TJGT had dual action going on this week with two events being played. The Austin Summer Classic was played August 18th-19th 2008 at Grayrock GC in Austin and the Houston Summer Shootout was played at Walden on Lake Conroe in Montgomery. Having a staff of over 50 high school coaches comes in handy at times like these.
Austin Summer Classic:
Despite playing in drizzle both days we saw some great golf on a great golf course with a couple of sub-par rounds and everybody getting around in under 4 ½ hours. Several college coaches from schools like UT, Yale, St. Edwards and OU put on their rain gear to watch the best junior golfers in the state tee it up. Three playoffs, all won on the first playoff hole, determined three trophy spots.
Here’s how the action shaped up on the course:

Houston Summer Shootout:
Lots of Montgomery Bears and Lady Bears roaming around the course this week. In spite of several heavy downpours all 36-holes managed to get played.
The short 6,700 yard course really showed its’ teeth again. Hit it straight and have a good short game or else. Many players were unable to handle the approach to number 11. Nice double dogleg par 5 going out into the lake. 11-12-13 definitely took their toll on the players. The Boys 16-18 played 6,730 yards, the Boys 12-15 played 6,248 yards, and all Girls played 5,665 yards. On to the action:
Boys 16-18
1st Cash Wilkerson 152
2nd Marcos Martinez 156
3rd Connor Black 157 (Played up from boys 12-15)
Boys 12-15
1st Dylan Reynolds 162
2nd Jonathan “the Lion” Vasquez 167
3rd Max Miller 176

3rd Abby Corson 188
Girls 16-18

Special thanks to all players and parents and the staff at both courses for making this a great two days of golf.
