Aussie takes TJGT Allen Samuels Cowyboys Junior Championship Title…Rau Takes Girls Title

The TJGT Allen Samuels Cowboys Junior Championship was played at the Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas July 11th-12th 2011.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,731 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,386 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,528 yards in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event.
Close to 100 players teed it up in temperatures that exceeded 100* both days.
The event had an international flavor with players from Texas, Australia, and Mexico and the coach from the University of Texas at Dallas was in attendance scouting the competition.

TPC Four Seasons Invitational headlines three TJGT events across the state

Another three outstanding TJGT events took place this week headlined by the TPC Four Seasons Invitational. Over 200 players played in front of college coaches from at least 15 different university’s in these three events. Another reason to play with the best if you want to play college golf.
The TJGT TPC Four Seasons Invitational was played at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas, home to the PGA Tour’s EDS Byron Nelson July 5th-6th, 2011.
All Boys 12-18 played 6,948 yards and all Girls 12-18 played 5,973 yards in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event.
College coaches from TCU (women’s), DBU (men’s and women’s), Cameron University (men’s and women’s), SMU (women’s), UNT (women’s), Baylor (women’s), UTSA (men’s and women’s), Henderson State (men’s and women’s), and University of Texas at Dallas came out to watch 95 players from Texas, Oklahoma, Australia, Mexico, Louisiana battle it out in extreme heat with temperatures above 100* both days.
We had two great summer days on an unbelievable golf course.  The TPC Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas was the host of an outstanding golf tournament played on one of the premier courses in the state, TPC resort course.
Day one saw two players dip into red numbers, Southlake’s Vincent Martino lead the field with a 68 and Colleyville’s Max Rosen fired off a 69.  Major Monzingo was not…

Peggy Nelson addresses TJGT players to kick off TJGT TPC Four Seasons Inviational

The first round of the TJGT TPC Four Seasons Invitational was kicked off with an inspiring talk by Peggy Nelson, wife of Byron Nelson. During her talk she wore the medal awarded to “Lord” Bryon after winning the 1937 Masters. This super-deep field, in which every graduating senior from the class of 2011 in the field received either academic or golf scholarships, must have been listening as they came out with guns a’blazin’! TJGT Launches Pilot Program to Allow Usage of Distance Measuring Devices

The TJGT will be piloting “Distance Measuring Device” usage at TJGT Events from July 1, 2011 through the remainder of the 2010-11 season which ends on August 31, 2011.  Devices that measure “distance only” will be allowed.
At the conclusion of the pilot program, feedback from TJGT Executive Staff, TJGT Board of Directors and TJGT Members will be sought to determine future utilization by the Texas Junior Golf Tour.

The TJGT Texas Collegiate Amateur Tour Now Open to BOTH Men and Women!

The TJGT Texas Collegiate Amateur Tour has is now open to both male and female golfers age 25 and under. The TJGT’s vision for this elite tour is to provide men’s and women’s collegiate players and amateurs, along with elite junior players Summer opportunities to play premium, elite golf courses in a fun, competitive environment while providing exceptional tee gifts and awards from popular sponsors.

TJGT Girls Collegiate/Junior Series at the Golf Club of Dallas

The TJGT Girls Collegiate/Junior Series at the Golf Club of Dallas was played June 27th - June 28th, 2011 at none other than The Golf Club of Dallas. Anyone that came out to watch these young ladies play golf was not disappointed. Playing 36-holes in one day and flying around the course in just over six hours total, and then playing the final 18 on day two at about the same clip is simply amazing. All the young ladies playing in the event were pampered before the event and then challenged and stretched during the event. TJGT Shark Shootout, Falconhead Junior Championship, and Oakmont Junior Championship

Another busy couple of days of TJGT golf.

First up the TJGT Shark Shootout was played at the Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club in Katy, Texas June 27-28, 2011. Almost 90 players teed it up in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,790 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,330 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,700 yards in front of college coaches in attendance.

In the boys 16-18 division, Richard Le shot a 4-under 68 on day one and then held on for a one stroke win over Lonnie Smith in the 16-18 boys division. Richard 68 was clearly the round of the tournament while the shot of the tournament was played by Michael Bertness of Richmond Texas who scored an Ace on the par 3 17th hole of round one. Lonnie Smith and Raul Hernandez both carded 2 solid rounds for the event to place 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Max Linden and Jake Greenspoon tied in the 12-15 boys division with Max winning the playoff on 2nd hole with par. Dylan Godfrey was strong…

TJGT Girls Collegiate Series Kicks Off Today!

The TJGT Girls Collegiate Series kicks off today at the Golf Club of Dallas. Players representing schools like Texas A&M (Mary Michael Maggio), DBU (Mercedes Rios), Northwestern (Mei Liu), and even Ivy League schools like Brown (Michelle Chen), and several others, will be teeing it up in hot temperatures and against hot competition. Remember that if you want to play with the best you need to play the TJGT where the road to college golf begins.

The TJGT Greatwood Sugarland Classic

The TJGT Greatwood Sugarland Classic was played at the Greatwood Golf Club June 20 & 21, 2011.

The Boys 16-18 played 6,640 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,250 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,346 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event that saw players from Texas and Louisiana play in Windy dry hot Monday in windy, steamy, weather and hot with a few brief showers on Tuesday.

Dry, hot, windy west Texas golf conditions did not stop the youngsters of the TJGT from battling Greatwood to the very end. Big drives with bigger bounces were the norm for the tournament’s tee shots while a few brief rain showers on Tuesday provided all the relief needed to keep the kids engaged in the short game down…

Yet again, TJGT players named Golfweek Junior Players of the Week…

This time it’s none other than Mackenzie Boydston and Johnny Jones who received the prestigious honor.

Johnny Jones, of Flower Mound, Texas, shot 1-over 141 (67-74) at The Golf Club of Dallas to win the Texas Junior Golf Tour’s DBU Patriot/Dallas Championship by one shot.
Jones won his first event in the 16-18 division despite being just 15. He has four other wins in TJGT events on the season.

Mackenzie Boydston, of Keller, Texas, shot 1-under 143 (73-70) at The Golf Club of Dallas to win the Texas Junior Golf Tour’s DBU Patriot/Dallas Championship by three shots.
Boydston, 16, had five birdies on her way to an eighth career TJGT victory.
