SPENCER AND COTHRAN BATTLE WIND TO TAKE SOONER JUNIOR INVITATIONAL TITLES
October 5, 2008
The TJGT Sooner Jr. Invitational was played October 4th-5th, 2008 at the Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, home of the OU Men and Women’s golf teams. Over 70 players from five states and Mexico teed it up in the nationally-ranked, Golfweek event with a limited invitation-only field.
Several college coaches were in attendance coming to watch some of the best junior golfers in the region. You will be hard-pressed to find a deeper girls field on any regional tour than what you find in a TJGT invitational and the Sooner Jr. Invitational was no exception. Warm and windy weather greeted players both days with the wind really picking up on day two with gusts close to 35 mph making the site of the 2009 US Pub Links play even tougher. The bent grass greens were great with good speed, rolling to about 12 on the second day. The course yielded 2 under par scores each day with Chelsey Cothran carding a…

BUSY WEEKEND ON THE TJGT
September 8, 2008
There’s never a shortage of action on the TJGT and this past weekend, September 6-7, 2008, was no exception. In addition to the two TJGT Invitationals played in Waco, the TJGT had events going on in San Antonio and Huntsville as well. With four events in one weekend it pays to have a big staff.
First up is the Alamo City Kick-Off played at the historic Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio. Close to 75 players teed it up in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event with the Boys 16-18 playing 7,047 yards, the Boys 12-15 playing 6,564 yards, and all Girls playing 5,753 yards.
On Saturday the weather was sunny with a slight breeze. On Sunday it was cool in the morning as the temperatures were in the mid 70’s. Temperatures rose quickly to the lower 90’s by midmorning.

August 25, 2008
This past weekend marked the beginning of a new era on the TJGT with the debut of the Elite Mini-Tour, which played alongside the big tour at Bear Creek GC. With both the Fall Junior Preview and the Elite Mini-tour Kickoff being played August 23rd and 24th at Bear Creek, the TJGT took another step forward in further establishing itself as the place to play competitive junior golf. With Nationally-ranked events for boys and girls ages 8-18 there isn’t a better value in junior golf anywhere.
Although the first Elite Mini-Tour event was shortened to 27 holes due to some nasty weather that moved in on Saturday,…

A LITTLE RAIN, SOME COLLEGE COACHES, LOTS OF GREAT GOLF
August 19, 2008
The TJGT had dual action going on this week with two events being played. The Austin Summer Classic was played August 18th-19th 2008 at Grayrock GC in Austin and the Houston Summer Shootout was played at Walden on Lake Conroe in Montgomery. Having a staff of over 50 high school coaches comes in handy at times like these.
Austin Summer Classic:
Despite playing in drizzle both days we saw some great golf on a great golf course with a couple of sub-par rounds and everybody getting around in under 4 ½ hours. Several college coaches from schools like UT, Yale, St. Edwards and OU put on their rain gear to watch the best junior golfers in the state tee it up. Three playoffs, all won on the first playoff hole, determined three trophy spots.
Here’s how the action shaped up on the…

TJGT HITS THE GROUND RUNNING AT THE CAPITAL CITY KICKOFF
August 6, 2008
The TJGT got the 2008-2009 season underway with the Capital City Kickoff played at Falconhead Golf Course in Lake Travis, Texas.
Although the second day had temperatures almost ten degrees cooler than day one, the first day saw weather that was extremely HOT with little to no breeze, and temperatures that topped out at 103*. Combine that with a golf course with many elevation changes and protected greens with more than their share of undulation, and you have a very challenging venue.
