De La Cruz shot 4-over 148 (72-76) at Traditions to win by five shots while Sims shot 6-over 150 (77-73) to win the Girl’s division by a single shot. Sims, who recently committed to Florida will join her sister Mariana, who will play for Wake Forest next year, in the collegiate ranks once she graduates from high school. The TJGT Traditions Invitational

image
The TJGT Traditions Invitational was played December 10th-11th 2011 at the Traditions at Texas A&M golf club in Bryan, Texas. Cold and sunny weather greeted the 112 players from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Louisiana, and Virginia as they fought it out over 36-holes in this Golfweek-ranked event.

Coaches from Texas A&M, OU, TCU, Texas Tech, SFA, St. Edwards, Rice, Texas Southern, and McNeese State, Hill College, McLennan CC, Houston, Houston Baptist and several others came out to watch the players navigate a collegiate venue with the Boys 12-18 playing 6,955 yards and the Girls 12-18 5,920 yards. Traditions is the home of the 2009 NCAA Men’s National Champions and was host site of the 2011 NCAA Women’s National Championship.

The players who participated in the event were treated to a plethora of merchandise Aggie colors at the registration tables as Maroon tee-shirts, grey beanies, and maroon Oakley “under armor” shirts were given to each participant.

Parent appreciation was also on hand as Mr. Bird and Mrs. Coleman were each the lucky winners of brand new Oakley Gas Can sunglasses. Parents and spectators should look forward to more of these appreciation gifts as the partnership between Oakley and the TJGT continues to grow.

On Friday night players and parents were treated to a tour of the state-of-the-art Texas A&M Men’s and Women’s golf team practice facility followed by a very informative and highly educational Q&A with the Aggie coaching staff including head coaches JT Higgins and Trelle McCombs. If you want to learn how to navigate the road to college golf then who better to give directions than people that have been there, done that.

On the golf course, even with the best weather we’ve had in the history of the tournament, The Traditions course still proved to be…

2011 US AMATEUR CHAMPION KELLY KRAFT & NCAA MEDALIST JOHN PETERSON AT BARTON CREEK

Once again the TJGT has done what only the TJGT can do. The TJGT has arranged for former players John Peterson, 2011 NCAA Men’s Medalist, and Kelly Kraft, 2011 US Amateur Champion, to be on site and available for the TJGT Q&A Evenings at the TJGT Barton Creek Holiday Classic December 28th-30th. Parents and players alike will be able to ask John and Kelly what it was like for them to play competitive junior golf, navigate the road to college golf, and recently winning two of the most prestigious amateur titles. It’s events like these that give you access to players and coaches that share based on their experience and success, not classroom theory, that make the TJGT the place to play for players wanting to play college golf.

KELLY KRAFT: 2011 US AM CHAMPION & 2008 TJGT ALUMNI

“The staff of the Texas Junior Golf Tour provided me exceptional leadership when I was a junior golfer looking to play at the next level. Coach Monzingo & Dave Jones passion to see me succeed was amazing. The impressive aspect of their mentorship is they always stayed in contact with me during my years at SMU. I would see them on the first tee of several of my collegiate tournaments checking up on their alumni and networking with all the coaches on behalf of their current members. Impressive is the only word...

The TJGT I-10 Junior Championship/TJGT Galleria Dallas Classic

image
The TJGT I-10 Junior Championship was played at the River Ridge Golf Club December 3rd-4th, 2011 in windy and cold conditions.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,740 yards and the Boys 12-15 played 6,372 yards on the River – Parkland course while the Girls 12-18 played 5,439 yards on the River – Ridge course in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event.

Once again the best Chicken salad sandwich in the entire state of Texas was on the TJGT menu as the kids converged on Sealy Texas’ gem of a golf course, River Ridge. This fantastic venue has served as the host of the I-10 Jr. Championship for several years. The course is awesome, the food is awesome, the people are friendly, and you just might catch a glimpse of the football scores as you make the turn thru the open-air pavilion/scoring area.

Susan Hagger was able to out duel Annika Clark for the Girls 12-14 crown as she shot 77 the second day winning by 10 strokes.

Danielle Poe jumped out to a quick 5 stroke lead after Saturdays round and held on to win the Girls 15-18 division over leader board veteran Madeline Davis (2nd) and newcomer Kate Rimer (3rd). The girls just could not close the gap as Danielle used her course knowledge from 10+ competitive rounds on the KISD district course to…

The TJGT Cypresswood Junior Championship & The TJGT Amistad Golf Festival

image
The TJGT Cypresswood Junior Championship was played at the Cypresswood Golf Club on the Cypress Course November 19th-20th 2011.

The players teed it up under partly cloudy skies and near perfect scoring conditions at the Cypresswood - Cypress Course this weekend. While several players battled internal demons from inside 15-feet, others were forced to battle father time as the sun proved to be a formidable opponent for all the late tee times.

The Boys 16-18 played 6,906 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,238 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,714 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event.

Coaches from Houston Baptist and Schreiner University were in attendance watching the players from Texas and Louisiana battle it out.

Barrett Hennington and Phillip Stewart had their own battle going on in the Boys 15-18 division as they were paired together for both rounds of the two-day event. Round 1 saw Barrett fire 68, while Phillip closed with a 33 on the back nine for a 69. Round 2 saw both players take a few steps back, but Phillip Stewart eventually held on for the 3-shot win over Barrett. Local favorite, Lonnie Smith was solid enough to claim 3rd place.

Patrick Rhodes claimed 1st place in the boys 12-14 division by firing a +3 147. Kyle Hogan took 2nd while Cole Hammer’s 33 on the front 9 of day two was…
