Two-thirds of yet another TJGT “triple-play” weekend included the Pecan Valley Junior Championship and the TJGT Houston Metro Kickoff. While other tours took the weekend off because of the threat of a little rain, the TJGT was in full gear with three events (see separate story on the Baylor Invitational) played at four courses.
First up, the Pecan Valley Junior Championship was played September 12-13 2009 at the historic Pecan Valley Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas. Players from Texas and Mexico teed it up in extremely wet conditions with the Boys 16-18 playing 7,047 yards; Boys 12-15 playing 6,564 yards; and all Girls playing 6,095 yards in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event.
Day 1 was soaking wet as San Antonio received 5-7 inches of rain during the week. The showers held off long enough to get the round in before showers resumed later in the day. Day 2 was perfect as the temperatures held in the mid 80’s with only partly cloudy skies but due to all of the previous rain the course still played very long.

Next up the TJGT Houston Metro Kickoff was played September 12-13 2009 at the Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville, Texas.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,830 yards; Boys 12-15 played 6,440 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,723 yards in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event.
The Raven Nest Golf Club endured rains on Saturday and an overcast sky on Sunday, but by the time final scores were turned in, the sun had found its way to Huntsville – and, naturally, the temperatures were once again steamy and hot! Both days required lift-clean-place rules, but the second-day scores were much improved over the Saturday’s struggles. Congratulations to all the participants and parents who hung in there for both rounds.
