The Thanksgiving Junior Classic was played November 28-29, 2009 at the Horseshoe Bay Resort on both the Ram Rock and Apple Rock Golf Courses. Over 120 players from four states and two countries teed it up in cool and windy weather in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event. College coaches from Stephen F. Austin, Houston Baptist, University of Texas saw the Boys 16-18 playing 6,721 yards; Boys 12-15 playing 6,373 yards; and all Girls playing 5,796 yards.
Although both the Ram Rock and Apple Rock golf courses are in great shape, Day 1 was cool and windy as the wind gusted up to 30 mph making two tough golf courses play even tougher. Day 2 was got off to a great start as the conditions made for a perfect day for golf. Just a snapshot of the caliber of play found on the TJGT is the fact that there were four rounds under par on one of the toughest venues in the state.
On the course former TJGT Player of the Year Christina Cantu, who is being heavily recruited both in golf and academics and is targeting Ivy League schools such as Penn, Columbia, and Furman, rode a 2nd round 69 to win the Girls 16-18 division by six strokes over Taylor Moreno.
