The TJGT Houston 5A - Regional 3 Preview was played at Eagle Pointe Golf Club in Houston, Texas with the Boys 16-18 played 6,851 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,851 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,754 yards in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event that was played October 16-17, 2010.
Houston’s weather in October, as good as it gets. Players from Texas, Louisiana, Mexico teed it up as blue skies and near perfect temperatures gave way to some great golf as many new faces began popping up on the TJGT.
Caitlyn Cassity staked her claim as the regions player to beat after the departure of several top notch girls golfers into the college ranks from last season. Her solid 76 1st round was followed by a perfect 71 2nd round to easily step up to the top of the leaderboard. Cecilie Nordahl of Katy Raquel Trevino of Pasadena and Lauren Boone of Houston, just couldn’t muster enough charge at the end to pressure the eventual winner.
Mia Ayer of Nacogdoches continued her stellar play as the 2016 grad easily took the girls 12-15 field. Her pair 78’s were no match for the rest of the youngsters.
In the Boys 12-15 division, Carter Patterson held off a late charge by Zachary Bell (2nd Place) to take the honors. Max Linden claimed 3rd place as multiple boys put up good numbers for their day 2 score.
Tyler Thomas kicked off his senior year with a dominating performance in the boys 16-18 division. His 73-72-154 total left no real doubt who the champion was going to be at this event. Drew Boston of Baton ouge was able to pull away from the pack into 2nd as several golfers piled up between 154 and 160 total. Hudson Joubert’s round of 71 bested 9 others in that log jam to claim 3rd.

The TJGT Falconhead Junior Championship was played at Falconhead Golf Course October 16-17th with the Boys 16-18 playing 7,005 yards; the Boys 12-15 playing 6,525 yards; and all Girls playing 5,850 yards in yet another 36-hole nationally-ranked event.
The weather was sunny and perfect and the scores prove it was a great weekend for golf. The weather was cool in the morning with just a slight breeze as the day warmed to the low 80’s. Both the weather and the golf course were in great conditions. Day 1 saw many rounds in the 70’s. Day 2 continued with great scores as Case Hollenbeck set the front nine of the golf course on fire with a 3 under par 33.
