TJGT I-10 Junior Championship/Castle Hills Collegiate Preview

The TJGT I-10 Junior Championship was played at the River Ridge Golf Club in Katy, Texas December 12th and 13th 2009. On the Parkland course the Boys 16-18 played 6,740 yards and the Boys 12-15 played 6,372 yards; and on the Ridge course the Girls 12-18 played 5,439 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event. The weather was nothing short of cruddy on Saturday, with dense fog all day giving way to denser fog in the evening. Visibility of the golf ball was about 50 yards toward the end of play Saturday. Sunday, the weather man went 0-for-2, calling for sunny skies and a high of 70, he missed by a mile. Even dreary skies with a high of 50 couldn�t keep a damper on the great play we saw.

In the girls 16-18 division, Katelynn McDougal ran away from the field with a stellar 71 under soggy conditions on Sunday.

The Boys 12-15 saw Klein Klotz finish in 1st place with a nice score of 80-74-154 winning in a scorecard playoff with Reese Chance. Stephen Chambers took third with a 79-77-156.

The Boys 16-18 were led by Ryan Roseberry and Nick Pierce of Mayde Creek HS, and Scott Newell took third to have an all Katy ISD top 3

The Castle Hills Collegiate Preview was played December 12 -13, 2009 at the Castle Hills golf club just North of DFW airport. Players from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana teed it up in chilly, overcast weather as the Boys 16-18 played 6,850 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,428 yards; and all Girls 12-18 5,681yards in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event.
We saw some great golf and on a very challenging course that in recent years has hosted numerous USGA qualifiers.
