The TJGT Trophy Club/Allen Samuels Junior Championship was played August 27th-28th, 2011 at Trophy Club CC in Trophy Club, Texas. Just under 90 players battled excessive heat both days with temperatures reaching 105*+ in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event. This is an unique event in that players were allowed to ride in carts. It was a great event! Each day the players were faced with blistering heat and managed fantastic scores. Just a couple of examples were Major Monzingo firing a 72-73=145, and Vanessa Ha shooting 71-71=142.
Players from Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma were in the field with the Boys 16-18 played 6,902 yards; the Boys 12-15 6,313 yards; and all Girls 12-18 5,567 yards in front of college coaches from Dallas Baptist University & Cameron University.
Also how about all the birdies made on the playoff holes! In the girls 12-15 we had two playoffs for first and third. Chaithra Katameneni defeated Kenzie Wright on the first hole to win the 12-15 year old division with a birdie on the first hole. Macy Holliday from Dallas defeated Erica Lautensack to secure the third place position with a birdie on the first hole.
In the boys 16-18 we had a playoff for second place. Dayton Osborn defeated Sean Walsh on the first hole for the second place finish. Both young men were from Keller and it was a great show of sportsmanship.
In boys 12-15 year old division there was a tie for first place. Grant Davidson II defeated Hayden Springer after two sudden death holes with birdie on the first and birdie on the second.
