The TJGT Redstone Junior Classic was played August 2-3 2010 at the Redstone Country Club in Houston, Texas.
Wow! Scorching hot is an understatement! It was hot at the Shell Houston Open’s Redstone Country Club Tournament Course. Regardless of the heat, the kids were throwing darts all over the place. Nicole Budnik (hole # 14) and Kari Rosser (hole # 9) fired aces on day one. Rarely has the TJGT had aces in the same tournament let alone the same pairing as Nicole and Kari were in the same foursome when their aces occurred.
Several college coaches from the great state of Texas were in attendance watching the 116 player field with the Boys 12-18 playing 6,798 yards and the Girls 12-18 playing 5,768 yards in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event.
In their last competitive rounds as TJGT combatants, Lamar Consolidated teammates go their separate ways with another 1-2 finish.
Katelyn McDougal changed her school colors from blue to red as she leaves Lamar Consolidated high school for the friendly walls of Lamar University, and once again pounced on her girls 16-18 division with an awesome 70-69 2 day score.
Katelyn’s high school teammate, and soon to be St. Edwards college golfer, Ryanne Haddow, fired a nice 73-76, to finish second.
On a personal note from TJGT Houston TD Coach Handley, “These two girls are exactly the kind of girls all of our youngsters should look up to. For four years, I have watched these two work hard, get better, survive success and endure failure, and with each experience make massive strides to improve their golf game from both a mental and physical approach. I will certainly miss them stalking the fairways and greens of the TJGT.”
Hopefully we have a new batch of youngsters waiting to take the lead on the tour.
In the Girls 12-15, soon to be legendary Brooke McDougald (no relation) survived the heat to clip Katherine Patrick by a measley five strokes. It seems we have plenty of young ladies waiting to take the crowns vacated by a stellar group of seniors.
From the Boys 12-15 division, Ben Arnett of Houston, snuck away from Andrew Jacobe and Cory Sammons by 4 shots.
The Boys 16-18 saw 19 players within 7 shots of the lead. However, Matthew Barth survived a playoff with TJGT winner circle mainstay Scott Terrell to win the old boys honors. 142…..even par on a PGA Tour course……..wonder how many of these 19 we will see on TV……………great job to all players.
