The TJGT Region II Shootout was played on Sunday March 29th, 2009 in Waco, Texas. No, the event wasn’t shortened to one day due to weather, it was played in a format very common to the West coast where many colleges play 36-holes in one day and the players are allowed to ride in carts. This was the first time the TJGT has tried and according to players and parents it was a huge success! Chilly weather during the morning round gave way to warm and sunny conditions during the afternoon and everyone had a great time. Close to 100 players teed it up on two courses in this nationally-ranked event. College coaches scouting the competition saw players from three states and Mexico battle it out in this single day event.
The girls teed it up at Cottonwood Creek GC, host course to the Starburst Junior Classic, and played a challenging, collegiate distance of 5,716 yards while the boys played down the road at Twin Rivers GC. The 12-15 boys played 6,340 yards and the 16-18 boys played 7,123 yards.
We saw lots of great golf but nothing really compares to Kyle Bodin’s commanding, Tiger-like performance. Kyle Bodin was on fire shooting a total of 6-under par for the two rounds posting matching 69’s. He won by a whopping 17 shots on a tough, collegiate tournament golf course. Great job Kyle and to everyone in the field.
