The TJGT Kingwood Forest Junior Championship was played at the Kingwood Country Club on the Forest Course January 2-3, 2010 with players from Illinois, Oklahoma, Mexico, France teeing it up in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event. Houston Baptist head golf coach Dave Shuster was in attendance watching the Boys 16-18 play 6,758 yards; The Boys 12-15 play 6,307 yards; and all Girls 12-18 5,850 yards. The weather on Saturday was chilly and sunny while Sunday was overcast, miserable, and extremely cold.
Many of the best players in the Houston area as well as other parts of the globe descended on the Kingwood CC Forest course this weekend.
The dastardly chilly weather and the narrow, soggy fairways of the Forest course proved an extremely difficult challenge for all the competitors.
Hometown boy Logan Boatner was unable to defend his home turf as Scott Terrell put in two workman like rounds under less than ideal conditions. His two-day total of 150 was too much to overcome for Logan (3rd) and Trey Cassity (2nd) of Katy.
Katelyn McDougal reclaimed the top spot in the Houston area with a ground out 162 over Caitlyn Cassity and Abby Corson in the girls 16-18 division.
In the Boys 12-15 division, 7th grader Carter Patterson from the Woodlands held off charges by Kyle Beard of Montgomery High and 8th grader from Mexico Gustavo de la Garza. Carter’s great score of 74 on day two may have been the round of the tournament.
Taylor Stockton of Clear Lake High rolled to an easy victory in the 12-15 girls. Meagan Coleman Coleman finished in 2nd place.
