BUSY WEEKEND ON THE TJGT

Sponsored in part by Nike Golf

There’s never a shortage of action on the TJGT and this past weekend, September 6-7, 2008, was no exception. In addition to the two TJGT Invitationals played in Waco, the TJGT had events going on in San Antonio and Huntsville as well. With four events in one weekend it pays to have a big staff.
First up is the Alamo City Kick-Off played at the historic Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio. Close to 75 players teed it up in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event with the Boys 16-18 playing 7,047 yards, the Boys 12-15 playing 6,564 yards, and all Girls playing 5,753 yards.
On Saturday the weather was sunny with a slight breeze.  On Sunday it was cool in the morning as the temperatures were in the mid 70’s.  Temperatures rose quickly to the lower 90’s by midmorning. The course was in great shape and pace of play was just under 4:30 both days.
Here’s how things ended up after 36 holes:
Boys 16-18 –
• 1st place – Stanton Tondre Castroville, TX Graduating class of 2009 Rounds of 70, 73 for a total of 143.
• 2nd place – Eddie DeVane San Antonio, TX Grad class of 2010 Rounds of 76, 73 for a total of 149.
• 3rd place – Alejandro Flores San Antonio, TX Grad class of 2009 rounds of 74, 76 = 150.
Boys 12-15 –
• 1st place – John Rafael Corpus Christi, TX Grad Class of 2013 rounds of 81, 72 = 153
• 2nd place – Jake Judkins San Antonio, TX Grad Class of 2013 rounds of 79, 74 = 153
• 3rd place – JC Stoddard Helotes, TX Grad Class of 2013 rounds of 80, 75 = 155
Girls 16-18 –
• 1st place – Meghan Musk San Antonio, TX Grad class of 2009 rounds of 76, 76 for a total of 152
• 2nd place – Jessica Borth San Antonio, TX Grad class of 2009 rounds of 75, 78 for a total of 153
• 3rd place – Jessica Cornish Schertz, TX Grad class of 2009 rounds of 86, 81 for a total of 167
Girls 12-15 –
• 1st place – Haley Haught Austin, TX Grad class of 2011 rounds of 88, 83 total of 171
• 2nd place – Taylor Coleman San Antonio, TX Grad class of 2015 rounds of 90, 88 = 178

In the Boys 12-15 we had two playoffs.  John Rafael defeated Jake Judkins with a birdie of the second playoff hole to capture the championship.  Meanwhile, JC Stoddard defeated Sebastian Ugalde on the 4th playoff hole with a par.

On to the Houston Metro Kickoff played at Ravens Nest GC in Huntsville, Texas. Heading further South we saw the final event of the weekend. Perfect weather waited all players but extremely heavy rough (see picture) made for a challenging weekend of golf.
When the dust settled and everyone finally found their ball, here’s what things looked like:

1st Bradley Flemming 158
2nd Kris Keegan 166
3rd Shane Binding 174
