TJGT Overview

The Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT) was founded in 1989 in Austin, Texas, when several Austin High School golf coaches and parents realized a need for a higher level competition during the fall and winter season that would supplement high school golf along with regional PGA/USGA events and provide more national exposure to collegiate golf programs. The TJGT started with just eight tournaments and has since expanded to include more than 60 events during the 2008/09 season.  Tournaments in 1989 consisted of only local Austin/San Antonio players and have grown into some of the strongest fields in junior golf. Players from coast to coast as well as many international countries, such as Mexico, Scotland, Venezuela, Ecuador, Canada and Korea, are now participating.

The TJGT has produced more than 850 collegiate golfers at all levels of the NCAA, not to mention many additional players who have received academic scholarships that supplemented their golf scholarships. The 2006/07 season produced a 95% success rate in members receiving some type of collegiate/academic scholarship. Many TJGT players have gone on to accomplish great honors playing collegiate golf at all levels of the NCAA. Former TJGT players have received All-American honors to playing in national championships. Others have been named to Academic All-American & All Conference teams while receiving additional academic scholar awards. Several former players are now pursuing golf careers at all levels of the professional ranks.

Presently, the leadership of the TJGT staff & Board of Directors are unique from the majority of junior tours.  TJGT’s leadership are parents & coaches of current and former TJGT players, High School standouts, American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) players as well as current & former collegiate players. The operational staff of more than 40 Texas high school golf coaches, along withTJGT’s Board of Directors allow the tour to make decisions that maximize the exposure of members for collegiate opportunities. The TJGT leadership individuals who have experienced and navigated the collegiate recruiting process as well as the elite junior golf roadmap with their own children and there is NO SACRIFICE for “hands on” experience.
