Welcome to the Texas Junior Golf Tour - "The Road to College Golf"

With all the events the TJGT puts on you have to have a big staff. This week the TJGT was at it again with multiple events across the state.
First up the Texas Junior Golf Tour hosted the Oakmont Junior Classic fittingly at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, TX on June 28-29, 2010.  Oakmont was in great condition, and is a great venue for the juniors.  The older boys played 6,799 yards, while younger boys played 6,496, while all girls played 5,787 yards.  On Monday, the players were treated to a 2 pm shotgun start, which is both good and bad.  On the one hand, you get to sleep in, but on the other hand, you have to face the Texas heat!  All players were greeted by TJGT staff at registration with two sleeves of premium Nike golf balls.  The boys also received a nice workout shirt with the TJGT logo and a mesh cap, while the girls were awarded a workout shirt and shorts, also with the TJGT logo and the color of their choice.

Unfortunately, the weather on day one did not cooperate.  Approximately 9 holes into the event, a thunderstorm blew in and dumped a couple of inches of rain.  The players marked their location on the course, and the TJGT staff did a remarkable job getting all players off the course and out of harm’s way.  After a delay of approximately two hours, it was decided that play…

The field at the 101st Texas State Amateur was dominated by former TJGT alumni with former TJGT and Texas Tech All-American Chris Ward capturing championship honors.
From the moment Chris Ward teed off of his first hole on Thursday he had total control. From the time he completed his first round to his final putt on his 72nd hole, his name failed to be on top of the leader board for only one hole when Bryant Lach from The Woodlands took a one stroke lead with a birdie on the par 3, 8th hole (44th hole of the event) which Ward bogeyed.

The Texas Junior Golf Tour Elite Mini Tour division held the Falconhead Junior World Qualifier at Falconhead Golf Club in Austin, TX.  As the name states, this 36 hole event served as a qualifier for the prestigious Callaway Junior Championship in beautiful San Diego, California.  The Callaway Junior Championship was started in 1968 and includes current and former PGA stars Notah Begay III, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, David Toms, Ernie Els, Anthony Kim, Craig Stadler, and Corey Pavin, as well as LPGA stars Laura Baugh and Lorena Ochoa.  This is an incredible opportunity for junior golfers that the TJGT is proud to offer to its members. 

Day one of the event began with tee times off of hole number one at 11 am and Texas summer weather.  The players were greeted with two sleeves of premium Nike golf balls and a Nike golf shirt of their choice.  The mini tour players…

The temperatures outside are heating up and so is the TJGT. The TJGT hosted two big tour events and one mini-tour event this week.

First up the TGJT Falcon Head World Junior Qualifier was played June 7-8, 2010 at the Falcon Head Golf Course in Austin, Texas. The UT Tyler Rose Invitational was played May 22 -23, 2010 in Tyler, Texas with the older boys and all girls playing at the Eagles Bluff Golf Club and the 12-15 boys playing at the Garden Valley Golf Club. Several college coaches from schools like DBU, Tyler Jr. College, University of Louisiana Monroe, SFA, were in attendance scouting players from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, and Beijing China. The Boys 16-18 played 6,977 yards and the Girls 12-18 5,577 yards at Eagles Bluff, and the Boys 12-15 played 6,269 yards at Garden Valley. Temperatures were in the 90’s both days with winds averaging 10-20 mph.

The TJGT Wilderness Challenge was played May 15th-165th at The Wilderness Golf Course in Lake Jackson.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,783 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,303 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,740 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event that had an international flavor with players from Texas and China.

The Wilderness TJGT players weathered a spring thunderstorm of 1.7 inches of rain over a 24 hour period. Multiple players were able to shine thru the overcast Saturday round to post quality scores. Well over half the field was able to...

It was another great weekend of TGJT golf across the state with three events, including a team event being played. Great courses combined with beautiful weather along with the best junior golfers in the region make for some incredible golf.

First up we have the TJGT Tribute Team Championship played May 1st-2nd, 2010 at the Tribute Golf Club in the Colony just North of DFW airport. The course set up for some super low score and that’s exactly what we got.
