Once again it was a busy two days on the TJGT with yet another TJGT “Triple-header”-three tournaments going on at the same time across the state.
First up, the Blaketree National Junior was played at Blaketree National Golf Club on Jun 8-9 2009. The Boys 16-18 played 6,854 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,504 yards; Girls 12-18 played 5,946 yards in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event. The weather was partly-cloudy and in the 90’s both days and as far as 90 degree weather in Houston goes, this was as pleasant as it gets. However, the menacing greens of Blaketree National turned up the heat on some of the State’s best golfers.
In the girls 16-18 Division, Jenny Kang (71-83) rode her day one 10 stroke lead, to a comfortable victory. College Station’s Angela No (80-86) took advantage of her competitors hick-ups, to snatch victory in the girls 12-15 division.
First year golfer, Weston Johnson (77-76), cracks the winner’s circle for the first time in the boys 16-18 division. Thus proving, hardwork, dedication, and determination can make you successful in the TJGT.
In the boys 12-15 division, 2015 graduate, Chandler Phillips (79-73) of Huntsville, joins an increasingly long list of talented youngsters to claim a victory in the Houston Area. This list of wins by youngsters bodes well for the future of Texas golf, and shows depth of talent that only the TJGT can boast.

Next up the Trophy Club Shootout was played June 8th-9th at Trophy Club C.C. on the Whitworth Course. The Boys 16-18 played 6,921 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,291 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,521 yards in this 36-hole Golfweek-ranked event. Close to 100 players from Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana teed it up before college coaches in hot and windy weather on day one and just plain ‘ol hot weather on day two.

And last but not least, the Republic Championship was played June 8th and 9th at The Republic Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas. This Track features a menacing 7,007 yard layout from the Gold tees where the 16-18 Boys played, a tough 6,622 yards from the Forrest tees for the 12-15 Boys, and 5,698 yards from the stone tees for the girls. This tournament consisted of 27 players competing in a 36-hole event under warm and breezy conditions. Coach Bill Rogers from UTSA was in attendance during the final round of competition.
