It was a busy start to Spring Break with four events (three big tour and one mini-tour) all taking place at the same time. Our first stop takes us down to the Gulf of Mexco and the TJGT Galveston Island Classic. The TJGT Galveston Island Classic was played March 15-16 2010 at the Moody Gardens Golf Club in Galveston, Texas. The Boys 16-18 played 6,516 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,308 yards; and all Girls 12-18 5,859 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event. Close to 70 players started there Spring Break buy teeing it up down in Galveston.
The 6,500 yard Moody Gardens course again challenged some of the state’s best golfers. Many kids were ill prepared for the 30 mph winds, the narrow fairways and the sneaky difficult greens during the event.
However, we did have a few shining moments during the rain soaked day 2. In the Boys 16-18 division, Wes Artec of Kingwood shot a pair of 75’s to hold off all challengers. Carter Patterson once again paced the boys 12-15 matching Wes’s 150 for the event low. Catherine Herrera took the Girls 16-18 division while Raquel Trevino survived several snooze buttons to pace the girls 12-15 division.
The Boy 16-18 Division had playoff for second with Cameron Button and Jake Leatherwood, with Cameron taking second place winning the 2nd playoff hole.
The Girls 16-18 Division had playoff for third between Diana Wohl and Jennifer Paden, with Diana winning on the first playoff hole and the Girls 12-15 Division had a playoff for second place between Emily Hassey and Julia Bazaldua, with Juila winning on the first playoff hole.

Our next stop takes us to the Texas hill country for the TJGT UT Invitational. The TGJT UT Invitational was played March 15th-16th, 2010 at the UT Golf Club. Coaches from St. Edwards and Houston Baptist saw 102 players from three countries and three states tee it up with the Boys 12-18 playing 7,154 yards and the Girls 12-18 playing 5,989 yards in this 36-hole Golfweek-ranked event.
Day one was cool and windy as the temperatures ranged from 45 to 68 with winds gusting around 25 mph. William Wilder of Henderson carded a Hole-in-One on the Par 3 #12 with a Hybrid. Day two was cold and rainy, with a 45-minute delay the participants played through heavy rains.

Boys 12-18 – Eli Juren captured the title over Dylan Healey with a par on the 2nd play-off hole. Daniel De La Garza captured 3rd place over David Lee with a par on the second play-off hole.
Girls 12-18 – Elena Warren defeated Kaylin Terry and Jessica Tamen on the first play-off hole to capture third place.
And last but not least we take a trip to North Texas where the Trophy Club Whitworth Championship was held. The Trophy Club Whitworth Championship was played March 15-16, 2010 on the Whitworth Course at Trophy Club Country Club.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,861 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,291 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,505 yards in yet another 36-hole, nationally-ranked event.
Almost 70 players from Texas and Louisiana fought it out in windy, chilly conditions. Here’s how the top finishers ended up when the dust settled.
