The TJGT Trophy Club Christmas Mini-Tour Championship was played December 19th-20th, 2011 at Trophy Club Country Club on the Whitworth Course. The Boys/Girls 12 played 4,650 yards; the Boys/Girls 10-11 played 5,004 yards; and the Boys/Girls 8-9 played 3,385 in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event.
Round 1:
Round one was played in windy, cold and rainy conditions and was definitely a test of character and perseverance fore the kids! For most of round one the field had to fight the rain that was off and on most of the day.
The Boys 10-11 division Austin Kelley holds a 1-shot lead over Joseph Jones with an 80 after round one.
Phillip Choi Leads the 12-yr old boys with an 86.
On the girls side Hailey Jones posted a 75 to claim the top spot after round one and Kaylee Vesely is close behind with a 78 sitting in 2nd in the Girls 10-11 division.
In the Girls 8-9 division both Melena Garrientos and Gabbi Bentancourt are tied after round one with 83’s.
If the kids thought that round one was tough, round two proved to be even more of a test! With temperatures in the mid to low 40’s and the winds kicking up around 15-25 mph and the wind chill hanging around in the upper-30’s, it was a day of survival!
In the Boys 10-11 division Austin Kelley from Grapevine was able to show off his consistency in the tournament firing off second round of 80 and giving him a 2-day total of 160, helping him claim 1st place! Even though the wind-chill was around 36 that did not bother Hogan Jones. He came in from his round two with a outstanding score of 79 giving him 2nd place. Joseph Jones from Flower Mound was able to hold on to 3rd place.
Hailey Jones from Dallas did not let the wind bother her today, she came in with a 77 giving her a 2 day total of 152 and claiming 1st place honors. Kaylee Vesely from Austin finished with a 2 day total of 161 giving her 2nd place and Sadie Englemann was able to hold on to 3rd place.
Phillip Choi from Corinth finished in 1st place in the Boys 12 division. Ross Humphreys closed out his round with a 99 claiming 2nd place. Finishing 3rd was Christopher De La Cruz.
In the Girls 8-9 Division Melena Barrientos was able to hold on and finish in 1st place with her 2nd round 85. Gabbi Bentancourt finished the tournament with an 88 giving her 2nd place for the Girls 8-9 division.
