The TJGT I-10 Junior Championship was played at the River Ridge Golf Club December 3rd-4th, 2011 in windy and cold conditions.
The Boys 16-18 played 6,740 yards and the Boys 12-15 played 6,372 yards on the River – Parkland course while the Girls 12-18 played 5,439 yards on the River – Ridge course in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event.
Once again the best Chicken salad sandwich in the entire state of Texas was on the TJGT menu as the kids converged on Sealy Texas’ gem of a golf course, River Ridge. This fantastic venue has served as the host of the I-10 Jr. Championship for several years. The course is awesome, the food is awesome, the people are friendly, and you just might catch a glimpse of the football scores as you make the turn thru the open-air pavilion/scoring area.
Susan Hagger was able to out duel Annika Clark for the Girls 12-14 crown as she shot 77 the second day winning by 10 strokes.
Danielle Poe jumped out to a quick 5 stroke lead after Saturdays round and held on to win the Girls 15-18 division over leader board veteran Madeline Davis (2nd) and newcomer Kate Rimer (3rd). The girls just could not close the gap as Danielle used her course knowledge from 10+ competitive rounds on the KISD district course to hold the challengers at bay.
Walker Lee once again dismissed the competition with a quick 5-stroke advantage after round 1. Ashton Radvansky (2nd) and Kyle Hogan (3rd) fell to the rising star as Walker just would not relinquish any ground during Sunday’s chilly weather.
The Boys 15-18 division saw several boys put up solid rounds of 72 in difficult conditions. However, in the end, it was Katy ISD dominating the winners circle as Hagen Barmasse claimed 1st place by defeating Thomas Reilly on the 2nd playoff hole while Ben Arnett took 3rd over Michael Cotton.
All the Houston Area TJGT coaches hope everyone will stay warm, be safe, study hard and finish the first semester of the 2011-2012 school year with positive note.

The TJGT Galleria Dallas Classic at The Tribute was played December 3rd-4th, 2011 at the Tribute Golf Club in the Colony, Texas in windy, rainy, and cold weather.
The Boys 15-18 played 6,950 yards; the Boys 12-14 played 6,542 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,678 yards in this rain-shortened event. The golf coach from UTEP braved the elements along with players from Texas and Oklahoma.
It’s rare that it happens but in this case it couldn’t be avoided. With a forecast that guaranteed a 100% chance of rain this event had to be called after 18 holes.
This wouldn’t be bad if you ever wanted to know what it’s like to play golf at St. Andrews in the wind, cold and intermittent rain because that’s exactly what it was like as the Tribute GC played host to those conditions in round one of the Galleria Dallas Classic.
Under the tough conditions players showed their perseverance and endurance. In the Boys 15-18 Jassem Setayesh from Plano had no problems in tough conditions. His score of 73 proved to be the best of the day and gave him a 1st place win in the rain-shortened tournament. Lucas Rhea and Sean Kim both finished tied with a 76. Because of Rhea and Kim’s tie they went to a scorecard playoff. Rhea won on the #2 HCP hole with a 5 to Kim’s 6.
In the Boys 12-14 Colin Kober shot a 85 and won the even by one shot over Patrick Tehan’s 86. Spencer Bennett and Tommy Parker both finished with a 87 putting them in a tie for 3rd. Going to scorecard for the playoff Spencer beat Tommy with a 5 on the #1 HCP hole, Tommy had a 6.
In the Girls 15-18 Mackenzie Boydston did not have any issues with weather either. She had a great day putting together 6 birdies on her round! Her final score was 77 giving her a 1st place finish once again. Maddy Rayner from Southlake put together a good round with her 82 giving her 2nd place. Taylor Icenberger and Jacey Patton both finished at a tie with 86’s. Going to the scorecard on the 2nd HCP hole Taylor made a 4 and Jacey made a 6. Taylor finished in 3rd place.
In the Girls 12-14 Chelleen Cousins finished with a 89 and in 1st place. Quincey Ballard finished in 2nd place.
