College Bound Membership Program
Overview: This unique service offered through the Texas Junior Golf Tour is designed to make the recruiting and scholarship process easier to navigate. CBM is a comprehensive program that is specifically designed to maximize the experience of the TJGT Staff which is comprised of former college coaches and parents of former/current collegiate golfers. There simply is no sacrifice for “first hand experience” in the recruiting and overall collegiate experience. CBM is designed and catered to walk players and parents through every aspect of obtaining an athletic or academic scholarship. In the past 12 years, TJGT has produced over 3000 collegiate alumni. Our passion is to see every member obtain a college education. We believe a college education is a key to a successful future. Therefore, a high priority is placed on informing and educating each CBM member through various forums and media technologies. This program is designed to be a yearly mentoring program that will produce results. We are partnering with your family to obtain success.
Quite simply, other programs are charging thousands of dollars for collegiate consulting. TJGT has combined the entire program for only $150 per year. This $150 will turn into thousands of scholarship dollars and multiply your investment towards your greatest asset: Your Children. You will be empowered to make good and wise decisions regarding one of the most important decisions in the life of a young man/woman: The College Decision.
Program Director: TJGT’s Coach Monzingo, a 20 year veteran of high school golf, former collegiate & top amateur player, two –time college coach @ Eastern New Mexico & University of Oklahoma. Education: Associate of Arts: South Plains JC, 1983 BS: 1985, MED: 1986 Eastern New Mexico University
Coach Monzingo has coached and mentored thousands of parents & players over the past 25 years who have progressed to every level of collegiate golf and the PGA & Nationwide tours. His “hands-on” experience as a former college and high school coach, extensive network of college coach contacts, and college bound planning seminars make this program a must for every TJGT member.
TJGT has produced over 3000 collegiate alumni over twelve years, and the TJGT leader boards at the Invitational/Major series and Holiday Classics average over a 90% scholarship success rate for graduating seniors. In the past three seasons on the TJGT, the scholarship success rate for senior boys (85%) and girls (92%) are a result of the CBM program.
Coach Monzingo along with the TJGT staff of over 40 High School Golf Coaches and experienced Jr. Golf /Collegiate Golf Parents who make up the TJGT Board of Directors will assist each CBM member in navigating their “Road to College Golf.”

RECENT CBM TESTIMONIALS
"Dave & Coach,
Just wanted to touch base with you guys to see if there is anything we can do to help promote the CBM program.
We’ve been pretty busy getting things narrowed down for Brandon, and he has decided to attend Texas Lutheran University and will be playing on their golf team.
To give you guys an idea of how much help the CBM program has been, we’ll give you some history on our search for a golf program and scholastic match. Brandon is our only child, and we had no idea how to search schools and find a fit for him. Also, at the time he was a junior in high school, we had no idea we were behind the curve. Before the CBM program, we had talked with a local lady that was starting a program to assist junior golfers. She happens to be a neighbor of my cousin, and we were familiar with her from other tournaments. She actually contacted us initially and we met to discuss things. At the time, the fee (which was a few thousand dollars) seemed expensive, but we considered it. Then with the downturn of the economy, my company was hit hard and we instituted a 20% pay cut across the board plus had terminated performance bonuses. This was in excess of a 30% cut to my income! Pretty much we had to scratch the expensive help from the list. About the same time the CBM program came on line and we jumped on it! We cannot imagine how we would have navigated things without the program and the help of both of you. Luckily I was able to negotiate with the owners of my company a 1/2 day work day on Friday’s which freed up time for me to dedicate to the CBM program, in addition to any slow times during the regular work schedule and evenings at home.
After talking to Coach Monzingo and following his directions, we created a bio, results, tournament schedule, and swing videos. We sent these to Coach and made a few modifications he suggested, and we began sending things out. As a side note, we actually made the swing video ourselves with a small point & shoot digital camera with a video feature and a borrowed tripod. We quickly found out that, just as Coach Monzingo said, the coaches are much more interested in seeing information from the kids and not from a company or individual representing them. We even had a few tell us they didn’t even look at the bulk mail packages because they want the kids to know where their information is going and to be invested in their own future.
Attending the presentations, Q&A’s, and conference calls TJGT provided was very helpful in getting us on the right track and answered all the questions we were starting to have. The presentation at Barton Creek would prove to be especially helpful as Lance Ringler said “If you send me an email I will respond to it.” Two weeks later we were contacted by a national recruiting company offering us a pretty steep price cut to the normal fee if we would sign up with them. This made us second guess ourselves a bit and so I sent an email to Lance asking for his opinion. He responded with his cell number and said to call him the next day. I did and we talked for quite a while which made us realize we needed to stay the course.
Brandon contacted at least two dozen programs in his search after going down the list of important items for player and parents that the CBM program provided. He got several rejections either by email or phone, but received much positive input from the coaches. Even if they didn’t have a spot for him on their team, they were impressed with the format of his package. He received interest from several of the schools he contacted, in addition to a few schools that contacted him to ask for his information package. All of a sudden Brandon had several choices available to him, even though we had started late and with a financial handicap we had not planned on.
Brandon had narrowed his choice down to two schools within two hours of home where he really liked both the education options and golf programs available to him. Both of these schools told him there is no time line to their team & scholarship offers as they both would very much like to have him. He made his final decision this week and decided on Texas Lutheran University.
There is so much we learned in the process that we would love to share with others, it really could fill a book! If either of you have any questions, or want to do some kind of podcast / video / conference call or typed info, we’d be glad to help in any way we can. The CBM program not only saved us a lot of stress, but has provided opportunities and financial benefits that make the CBM fee the best money we have ever invested by several hundred times over.
Thanks again for everything."

"This year completed my last year of involvement with TJGT and I must admit that I am sad. We have grown with TJGT and have watched it grow in a positive direction. We started with TJGT when Willie put this program together as a fall venue for his daughter and other to play in the off season and continued for over 10 years to see it become the program that it is today under the direction of Dave Jones and Coach Monzingo. My son Larry McDougal Jr. played TJGT through high school and this gave him the exposure to play college golf. TJGT was the only tournament field that college coaches were visiting in Texas at that time. If not for TJGT, I doubt that he would have been noticed and afforded the opportunity to play college golf. Other than individual tournaments like the T.O. and TexAce, there were no large, strong fields for the kids to play in the 90s. Today, when I look at the Adams Golf Tour and other lower lever professional tours, I frequently recognize many of the players from TJGT events. My son and I made many friends through the TJGT that still exist today and for that I am very grateful. After college he chose to seek a doctorate degree in lieu of playing golf, which he completed this past May. Then my daughter Katelyn started in the TJGT in 2006. As a result of the efforts of the TJGT and the help of people like Coach Chad Hanley and other members of the TJGT Staff my daughter had several college scholarship offers and accepted a full ride scholarship to play D1 college golf. In fact my daughter’s Assistant Coach at Lamar University is a former TJGT player. Without the opportunities provided her by the TJGT, I doubt that her game would have reached the level it did and she would have never came to the attention of as many college golf programs as she did. Again we are thankful to the TJGT for all the friends that both she and I have made through your program. I cannot say enough good things about the TJGT, the Staff and everything you do for the players. You really do care about the kids and this program truly is the ‘Road To College Golf.’ "
